South Africa: Severe Thunderstorms and High Fire Danger

In South Africa, a yellow level 2 warning has been issued for severe thunderstorms, including damaging winds, heavy downpours, and hail, particularly in the Mpumalanga escarpment, eastern Eastern Cape, and western KwaZulu Natal. Additionally, extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in Limpopo and the Kamiesberg Municipality of the Northern Cape, accompanied by a heat wave in several regions including Gauteng and Limpopo, persisting until Tuesday.

United States: Dry and Stable Conditions

In the United States, the forecast is relatively calm for the immediate future. Dry and stable conditions are expected through at least Wednesday, with the greatest chance for isolated severe storms occurring on Thursday in Texas, as a wave of low pressure moves into the southern Plains.

Europe: Intense Arctic Cold Outbreak

Europe is facing a significant Arctic cold outbreak, particularly affecting eastern, central, and southeastern regions, including the Balkan peninsula. Heavy snowfall, up to 50 cm, is forecasted in areas from Romania to Ukraine. This severe winter storm is expected to bring substantial snowfall and strong winds, particularly in Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine. Temperatures across eastern and central Europe are projected to fall significantly, around 8-12 °C below normal.
