Optimizely and the never-ending story of the missing globe!
The good old days
In Optimizely/Episerver CMS prior to the UI refresh in Episerver.CMS.UI 11.21.0 we were able to open the current content, and see what our visitors would see, by simply clicking the globe on the toolbar.
The problems begin
In Episerver.CMS.UI 11.21.0 the globe disappeared! We would first have to click «Options» and then «View on website» to accomplish the same. That was one more click I did not want to do.
My first solution
My first attempt to «bring the globe back», resulted in this NuGet package for Optmimizely CMS 11. The globe was finally back.
Optimizely finally comes to their senses
Finally, a year later Episerver decided to put the globe back! With update 335 and Episerver.CMS.UI 11.30.0 there is a «new feature» CMS-14949: Put back the globe.
The globe is now located in the top right corner. I am no big fan of the new location. I think a common scenario is publishing a change first, and then want to use the globe afterward.
I like my placement directly over the «publish»-button better. In the screenshot the globe from my module to the left, and Optimizely's new globe to the right.
Optimizely took the globe, again!
On June 28th 2023 Optimizely released version 12.22.0 of their CMS, with a new menu system and support for Optimizely Identity. Guess what they removed? The globe!
Once again, I'm putting the globe back!
This time, there is no NuGet package, but you will find a simple guide, and the code needed to put the globe back here: https://github.com/tomahg/Gulla.Episerver.Globe
And, once again, the globe is back!
